MarEnTech Research Center Ltd is a Kenya-based applied research organization specializing in marine engineering and sustainable maritime technologies. We collaborate with universities, industry partners and public institutions to address marine engineering challenges through research, modelling, simulation, technical design and field-based studies. Our work focuses on cleaner marine propulsion, vessel energy efficiency, exhaust-emissions reduction, navigation safety, ship manoeuvring and structural integrity.
About the role
MarEnTech is seeking an organized, proactive and technically minded Part-Time Engineering and Project Assistant to support its activities. The successful candidate will assist with project coordination, technical and administrative document preparation, partnership meetings, stakeholder engagement, research activities and other assignments. This role is suitable for an engineering graduate or early-career professional who is interested in gaining practical experience in applied research, project coordination and the maritime sector. The successful candidate will work closely with MarEnTech’s Kenya-based representative and other team members working internationally.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and formatting project reports, proposals, presentations, meeting briefs and other technical or administrative documents.
- Attend partnership meetings, workshops, conferences and stakeholder engagements in Kenya when required.
- Prepare meeting agendas, take minutes and support the follow-up of agreed action points.
- Assist with the coordination and logistics of meetings, workshops, site visits, conferences and research activities.
- Conduct basic technical research, desk studies and data organization under the guidance of the MarEnTech team.
- Liaise with universities, government institutions, industry partners, suppliers and other stakeholders as assigned.
- Provide on-the-ground support to MarEnTech’s Kenya-based representative.
- Assist with obtaining quotations, sourcing equipment, procurement coordination and basic inventory-related activities.
- Support local travel and field activities associated with MarEnTech projects.
- Represent MarEnTech professionally at assigned meetings and events while working within the responsibilities authorized by management.
- Perform other reasonable engineering, project coordination and administrative duties assigned by MarEnTech management.
Requirements & qualifications
- A diploma or bachelor’s degree in marine, mechanical, electrical, mechatronic, environmental or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good technical writing, document preparation and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Google Workspace or Notion is an advantage.
- Ability to understand, organize and communicate technical information clearly.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a geographically distributed team.
- Must be based in Kenya and available to attend in-person meetings, events and project activities when required.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel locally for meetings, conferences, site visits and field activities.
- A valid driving licence is an advantage.
- Previous experience in engineering projects, research assistance, administration or project coordination is an advantage.
- Recent graduates with strong technical, communication and organizational skills are encouraged to apply.
